Inverness mon amour

During a 10-day holiday in Scotland last year I had the chance to see many beatiful places, ranging from lakes to castles. One of the most beautiful areas of Scotland is the area of the Highlands, with its stunning natural scenery. The capital of the Highlands is the city of Inverness and its position is strategic if someone wants to visit different places during a holiday.

The tour of Scotland I joined had a busy schedule so I was not able to visit the city properly but I found a really nice Whisky bar close to my accomodation. Its name was “The Malt Room”, it was very inspiring! This type of bar is quite common in Scotland, we all know why.

Once inside the “Malt Room” I found myself in a nice place so I was looking forward to ordering. There was the possibility to taste a dram from a selection of whiskies but this time I decided to opt for a more complete experience, in fact you could also order a “Whisky flight”. A whisky flight is basically a whisky tasting session which can be ordered in a whisky bar. It is not like a classic online or in-person whisky tasting with the presence of an expert telling you a detailed history of the spirit but it is still an interesting experience.

The whisky tasting session I ordered was called “Meet the locals”. The choice of this name was linked to the fact that all whiskies comprised within the flight were related to three distilleries located in the Highlands. I tried the following drams (descriptions included), they were popular products:

  • A Dalwhinnie 15 years old: notes of honey, pear but also pudding and others;
  • A Tomatin 14 years old: we can find for example notes of red berries, grapes and almonds;
  • A Dalmore 15 years old: notes of marmalade, christmas cake, spices and others.

Please have a look at the whisky flight in the photo above! My favourite whisky was certainly the Dalmore 15 years old, I liked its marked taste. Do you like the whiskies of the Highlands? Have you ever tried them?
